Starting a new sport – boxing

I have started a new sport that I have always wanted to get in to, ever since I had a go at Uni; Boxing! I am so far loving it, but I should point out, I have yet to receive a proper punch to the noggin!

After a 20 year gap I decided to grasp the bull by the horns and go for it. I found a club near to where I work called; Gloucester Fight Factory. It is run by an amazing guy called Jon Pitman who has kept it going for years with very little support in terms of funding  and is clearly a really under-sung hero of the local community.

I have been going twice a week in my lunch hour for about 2 months now and it is a great work out as well as being lots of fun.

As I said, I have yet to reach the stage where the punches are coming back and I am just learning the ropes but I am addicted. I have accidentally hit myself in the face a few times which is rather embarrassing but Jon is showing lots of patience and not laughing out loud.

As well as punching the pads in and around the ring, I am also having a go at hitting the various bags and that is not only very therapeutic but also bloody knackering. I think I am probably a good 5 years away from being ready for my first real fight (and very quick retirement) but I cannot recommend boxing enough, a great fitness tool and great fun as well.
